On May 27, 2010, we informed our membership that after much consideration and discussion, the 2009-2010 Board of Directors of Women's Committee for Hospice Care recommended the dissolution of our organization.

At the Annual Meeting held on June 15, 2010, a detailed presentation was made regarding the rationale for this recommendation. Economic developments and changes to our organization, as well as changes in the hospice community, were reviewed. A vote was then taken where more than two-thirds of our members in attendance voted in favor of the Board's recommendation to dissolve the WCHC organization.

Therefore, after 23 years of successful fundraising, WCHC filed dissolution documents with the State of Michigan and the Attorney General at the end of June. We have distributed all remaining monies equally among the seven hospices we have supported. Through our fundraising efforts this fiscal year, we are able to distribute an aggregate $200,000 to our hospices, bringing our total grants awarded since 1987 to over $6.7 million.

We hope you will continue our legacy and further the cause of hospice care by volunteering your time and/or providing monetary donations directly to one or more of our hospices. Within this website, there are links of the hospices we have supported. These links offer information on volunteer opportunities, either for hands-on patient care or office duties. Some of the hospices have their own future fundraising events scheduled in which you can participate. There continues to be a need for assistance to hospice patients and their families and they will be so grateful for your contributions.

We appreciate all that the members have done to help fulfill the WCHC mission. We have been successful because of our wonderful members and donors who have supported us throughout the past 23 years. Thank you so much.
