Local Nonprofit Utilizes Shopping and a Raffle to Benefit Its Cause

Orchard Lake, Mich. - The Women's Committee for Hospice Care, Inc. (WCHC) hosted their Annual Spring Luncheon and Boutique on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Orchard Lake Country Club, with the sunny weather presenting an ideal springtime backdrop for the afternoon's festivities. The Spring Luncheon and Boutique was chaired by Danette Fischer, with help from co-chairs Pam Jarrett and Candace Ordonez.

The 30+ vendors were a wonderful blend of artisans and retailers, offering selections from pottery to jewelry, and spices to florals. There was something for every shopping palate!

"Shop, shop, shop for hospice!", exclaimed Honorary Chair Judy Gardner, as she encouraged the ladies who lunched, and shopped they did; raising over $70,000 for hospice care in the process.

"There's no better way to shop, dine, and enjoy a wonderful event to support our area hospices," added Connie McEwan, WCHC President.

The Vintage Rose booth (now in its third year) had a special donation. In addition to all the fantastic gently used high-end treasures that had already been collected, Production Plus, an event production firm, donated fabulous designer items used at the International Auto Show for men as well as women.

The afternoon was quite a family affair as mother/daughter pairs were seen both shopping and working the event. Sylvia and Karen Hagenlocker were in attendance, supporting WCHC, and artist Jessica Doty of Ferndale's Artcetra was selling her pottery with the help of her mother Dianne Danhke.

A raffle was also part of the luncheon's festivities. The outstanding raffle prizes included a week's vacation at the Wyndham Cypress Palms in Orlando, Florida; a spa day at the Neiman Marcus Spa Zodiac, $200 Lark Restaurant gift certificate, gift wrapping services and materials from Lisa's Gift Wrappers, a vase by Chelsea House donated by Homeworks Interiors, a gift basket from Dr. M. Danish/ Pure Rejuvenation, a Coach handbag from Friends of WCHC, and interior design consultation by Michele Weston of Weston Interiors.

The luncheon was quite a success and the food from the new Orchard Lake chef was delicious! The menu was a mixed green and fruit salad with a celery seed dressing, chicken piccatta with fresh green beans and cous cous with red and yellow peppers, and lemon and raspberry sorbet with a fan cookie. Yum! The perfect ending to a delightful day of shopping and fundraising.
